As we’ve been discussing, reggae is making major waves around the globe and reggae music is inspiring people in a major way while pollinating across genres. Here is our list of the top producers bringing beautiful reggae music to life in 2023!

A large number of jamming reggae EPs were released this year - many ranging from three to five tracks. A solid EP tells a story that has a listener on the edge of their seat, or at the very least maintains a compelling theme and feel throughout.

The Steppas stand up for their beliefs and community in “Hear Dat”. The Hawaiin reggae band teamed with Jamaica’s Irie Yute Tapes in this jam that sends a loud call to action for the government to take action and help people live a better life.

Cool down and enjoy “Island Gal” by Kris Crohn. This is a beautiful love song with the perfect island vibes that will bring a smile to your face. The Hawaii-based singer-songwriter writes from the heart, and you’ll feel it throughout the track.

Get excited for Halloween by listening to The Green’s island vibe version of “Monster Mash”. This is such a fun reggae cover and I love the new energy the Hawaiin band brings to the single, which was released by Ineffable Records.

Laupepa celebrates the strong pull of love in the gorgeous track, “Wildfire”. The Oahu-based artist shows off his amazing vocals, and talent as a guitarist in this romantic single.

Keep good vibes going year round with The Green’s new EP, “Summertime”. The Green have been one of my favorite reggae bands for many years, and I love this three track EP, released by Ineffable Records, showcasing the Hawaii reggae rocker’s talent.

Kolohe Kai responds to the devasting Maui fires with new single “Too Close Too Home”. In a Facebook post he says the “song written with the deepest sympathies and condolences for all of you who were devastated by the Maui Fires. We can’t imagine the loss and pain you’re going thru. But we really wanted to record something to help comfort you in any way”

Irie Yute Tapes’ “Awaking Riddim” is off to a hot start with jamming singles from Rik Jam, Willz and Jah Love. I love listening to riddim projects and when Irie Yute Tapes’ Phillip McFarlane is behind a track’s production and vision, you know it’s going to be innovative and unbelievably good.

Surfer, filmmaker, environmentalist and extraordinary musician, Jack Johnson has been in our eyes and ears for over 20 years with his silky smooth style and impeccable execution of the best beach campfire songs available.

Eli-Mac celebrates true love in her new single, “Résumé” featuring Collie Buddz. The talented singer-songwriter beautifully blends reggae, R&B and pop music and this is the perfect reggae love song to cool down your pace this summer.

Feel love and island vibes with Yasmyn Andrade’s “Lovah Boy” featuring Inna Vision. From the chill riddim to Andrade’s beautiful vocals, this is one of my favorite new reggae love songs. The teaming of Andrade and Inna Vision is jamming and makes me want to travel to Hawai’i asap!

“Forever Yours” is a beautiful love tune by Hawaiian artist Sidney Spencer. The romantic track shares peaceful island vibes and Spencer’s voice carries the passionate lyrics so nicely. The song emits so many positive messages of love, kindness and hope and is an all around great jam.

New Zealand’s Canaan Ene teams with Hawai'i legend Kapena in a fresh take on “Down Under”. This is such an iconic song by Men At Work, and I’m really enjoying this new reggae style update to the jam.

Push all those thoughts away and “Learn To Let Go” with Paul Izak. Izak is such a great song writer and this is absolutely one of my favorite new tracks out this summer. I love the message about taking time to slow down and truly getting to know yourself.

Get lost for the day and jam along with The Green’s new single, “Summertime”. This is the perfect summer jam to throw on to start your day with energy, or as you get your next road trip on the move.

Plan your next trip to Hawai'i around Through The Roots’ upcoming tour in early August! Traveling is the best and when you’re heading to the islands to see reggae music, it doesn’t get any better! The reggae rockers always bring such amazing vibes and will be playing back to back to back shows in Maui, O’ahu, and Hawai'i Island on Aug. 3 - 5.

The smooth sound of New Zealand’s own, Katchafire, along with Hawaii-based artist, FIA, made a stop in Deep Ellum, TX on a beautiful Thursday evening during the last leg of their USA Tour 2023. Being a school night had no impact on the attendance of the soul-filled evening of roots magic.

Stick Figure’s new “Edge of the Ocean” music video features beautiful shots of Kauai. This is one of my favorite songs from Stick Figure’s amazing album, “Wisdom”, and it’s so cool how they brought the song to life through these visuals.
