The smooth sound of New Zealand’s own, Katchafire, along with Hawaii-based artist, FIA, made a stop in Deep Ellum, TX on a beautiful Thursday evening during the last leg of their USA Tour 2023.

Being a school night had no impact on the attendance of the soul-filled evening of roots magic. The DFW reggae family showed up in full force and cheered these guys on as they played their hearts out to us in the music capital of North Texas.

It was my first time catching the likeness of FIA, and it was their first time stepping foot in Texas! They couldn’t have paired better with a band like Katchafire, they both have a mellow and soothing, yet powerful delivery of their songs. The band looked like they were having just as much fun as we were, matching the crowd’s energy and creating new fans amongst the already established ones. I’ve already added them to my playlist and you should too!

In between sets, the outside patio area was well received and the smell of the sweet leaf was abound. Drinks were flowing and the only thing that could stop the party outside was the party inside;  the sound of the drums came through the walls, signaling Katchafire’s set was beginning. Outside quickly moved inside and the jams continued!

Katchafire took the stage with big smiles and let the tunes pour out of the PA to a fairly packed house as Kiwi flags were flying in the crowd, signaling to the boys in the band they had family here. The group held nothing back, playing every song you were there to hear and more while shakas were held high at every chance and the dancing never stopped.

It was comforting to see the community feel amongst the diversity of the concert goers. I witnessed many new friendships being made and even made some new friends myself. It was a great night of music and memories once again. I love this culture and the music that brings it all together!
