José Picazo inspires change for the better in his new Who We Are EP. The former Pacific Roots singer’s passion for reggae music motivates him to create new music and we are absolutely vibing to his new EP that showcases his incredible songwriting and vocals. Dailyreggae.com caught up with José to learn more about his musical journey and the creation of Who We Are.

Tell us about your journey as a musician José!

“I’m 25 years old from Santa Cruz, California born and raised. I started teaching myself guitar and piano when I was pretty young, maybe eight years old. I played in a few middle school bands with my friends and also fell in love with reggae at that time thanks to local legends, The Expendables. Eventually, I knew I wanted to be a performing and producing musician, so after high school, I went to The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences (CRAS) in Phoenix, Arizona for a year to learn how to professionally record music.”

“After that, I came back home to Santa Cruz and joined local reggae band, Pacific Roots, who I played with for about three years. We released a ten-song album while I was with them and eventually I left the band to begin nursing school. However, I had no intention of quitting music altogether! Last year, I released my first two singles (Far from Home; Let’s Be Free) and now this year my EP.”

What was your inspiration behind your new EP?

“Some songs on this EP are influenced by life experiences like love, anxiety, and quitting certain addictions. Other songs are heavily influenced by all the fucked up things going on in the world and specifically the USA. There’s some political influence in those same songs but overall they are about bringing change for the better.”

The second song on the EP, Nowhere, is the Daily Reggae Song of the Day.
