Album Review: “Make It Last” showcases the poetic songwriting and heart of Algorhythm
Algorhythm’s debut album, “Make It Last” starts with an irie bass line, jamming guitar and locked in drum line and sets the tone for a thoughtful and super enjoyable reggae, rock and pop music experience.
The band has such a cool sound and the opening track, “Crossing The Bridge”, is a poetic reminder for us to be open to new experiences. The three band members stemming from their current bands SOJA, Stick Figure and Three Legged Fox are following this mantra, and we are all fortunate to listen to the results!
“Good Life” is a beautiful love song that is an absolute stand out on the album. The track’s lyrics celebrate our happy days and the love of our life. The band is so well connected and you can’t help but feel inspired by their energy and passion.
The song “Make It Last” brilliantly sends a reminder to slow down and to appreciate those special moments in life.
Algorhythm’s visual songwriting chops shine in “Driftwood”, a motivational song about staying on track, building our strength each day, and keeping an open mind to new possibilities. I especially vibe with the catchy chorus, smooth reggae guitar and Kevin Offitzer’s groovy drum beat.
I love the way that Trevor Young and Kyle Wareham share Algorhythm’s vocal duties. It adds an important layer of depth to the band’s music. One tack that perfectly showcases this is “Words In My Head”. Close your eyes and take this beauty in. This track is so meditative and brings instant calmness.
The song “Magic” is well, magical! I love today’s reggae genre so much and its cross pollination of influences and sounds. This is one of those mixes of rock, pop and reggae that is absolutely brilliant and just all around great music!
Young and Sarah de Warren’s voices bring us on a journey to find love even when a mountain stands in the way. The song, “Lost Cause” sends a reminder to never give up and to follow the light ahead.
When the road gets rocky or it’s time to re-connect a trip to your roots is a must, and I really like how Algorhythm communicates this feeling in “Come Home”. This would be a really cool song to hear the band perform live!
One of my favorite songs on the album is “By Your Side”. The song pushes away hate and opens our arms for love. Algorhythm is making absolutely breath taking music and no matter where you are in your journey the band’s music will help inspire a brighter future.
