Quickly rising psychedelic dub band So/Below put out a brand new single on September 3rd. The song has special meaning to members Ryan Miracle (vocals/guitar) and Myra Gomez (bass). Dailyreggae.com had a chance to talk with them about the inspiration and creation process behind the track.

"Back To Babylon was inspired by the decentralized communities and people who’ve inspired us to seek alternative solutions to the state by focusing on aspects of spirituality and sustainable forms of living.

We want to remind ourselves that in order to create a better world for ourselves we can’t afford to revert to old habits and destructive patterns. In the song we approach the concept of “babylon” being a state of mind that we manifest into reality and is prevented by refusing to acknowledge or participate in its fiction.

Making the song was was a journey lol.

Ryan had started writing BTB in the early days of So/Below around 2017 with a fairly simple setup and basically no prior producing experience other than making music in garage band with an iRig mic studio mic. (which is still awesome by the way).

Inspired by upcoming producers and engineers like DM Kahn, Big G, Pana, and Pachyman we knew our focus was on building a studio from scratch to create music in a more consistent way and to better sculpt the sound.

This song really represents in a lot of ways growth through perseverance. If you’ve listened to our earlier demos you can notice a difference in quality and we hope we can keep pushing the limits of what we are making because we feel we are only scratching the surface of what we’re capable of.” -Myra and Ryan.
