George Prophet’s love of reggae brings us ‘Pop Lovers Rock’
Talented singer-songwriter George Prophet released a beautiful new album titled, Perfect. The album released in February 2021 showcases George’s voice, catchy hooks, and passion for reggae. Dailyreggae.com caught up with George to learn about his journey in music and to learn about his style of music, “Pop Lovers Rock”.
George, tell us about your journey as a musician. When did you fall in love with singing and reggae?
I was born in Portland, Jamaica, the first of seven children. I grew up in church, that's where I started singing. I was attracted to Gregory Isaacs and Beres Hammond’s music. That's where I got my inspiration from. I started writing my songs from a young age in school.
I am based in the USA now trying to connect with my roots as much as possible. I refer to my genre of music as pop lovers rock.
I have graced the stage with legendary artists such as Dennis Brown, Delroy Wilson, Pat Kelly, Beres Hammond, Luciano, Gregory Isaacs, and Etana just to name a few.
What is the reggae scene like in New York City?
Much different from Jamaica. It’s a little easier to breakthrough in the USA, because there are less players, but there are more vibes in Jamaica.
Tell us about your latest album, Perfect. Who were your inspirations and where was the album recorded?
I thought I had something to contribute to reggae music, so I just put my music out there on display. I try to put out something that everyone could find something to love.
The album was recorded in four different studios: Universal Recording Studio, Knock Head Studio, ANS Studio, and Worldhype Studio.
Do you write all your lyrics and what is your writing process like?
I am a singer, songwriter, and producer. I produce my songs and very rarely put pen to paper. I hear the hook and I can go with that. I have produced many songs that way.
Where is a good place for fans to go to support your music?
