Daily Reggae Album Review: “Futur” is Dub Inc’s latest reggae masterpiece

I recently had my first opportunity to see Dub Inc perform a set in-person. The band was on tour with Mike Love, and my friends and I were amazed by their incredible energy, talent and passion. We instantly became huge fans! The Saint-Etiennem, France hailing band’s eighth studio album, “Futur” is their latest reggae masterpiece, which shares a beautiful and important message of unity and bringing people closer together.

As a native English speaker, I unfortunately do not have the ability to understand Dub Inc’s French lyrics, but that is what is amazing about music. Music isn’t just about lyrics and language. When you listen to this album, you cannot help but be drawn into the emotions and amazing vibes. You feel the band’s togetherness and joy. In a release, the band reflected on the album saying one of its themes focused on “the need for collective strength, diversity, respect for the past and identities, and the joy of being together.” This is such an incredible message that we can all relate to!

The band went on to say “Faced with climate change, geopolitical issues, the social difficulties that our societies are experiencing, time is running out. We can no longer wait: acting, each at their own level, is not only possible, but essential.” I love how Dub Inc isn’t afraid to speak about these important societal issues and to be a voice of inspiration to spark action.

Dub Inc’s musicianship is so amazing and “Futur” showcases the band’s special blend of reggae rock with a hint of electro music. It’s no wonder why the band continues to grow and develop their global fanbase. They are one of Europe’s largest reggae bands and you could feel the connection with U.S. audiences on their recent tour.

One unique aspect to the band is they have two singers. Hakim Meridja has one of the most amazing singing voices I’ve ever heard in-person and on a record. His ability to harmonize and lead a song is brilliant. Turn up “Nos Héros” for example, and you’ll be astounded by his gorgeous vocals. The track is about paying homage to ancestors and using them as an inspiration to build a better future. Dub Inc collaborations with Balik on the track. The band’s Aurélien Zohou is also a unique vocalist and compliments Meridja. Seeing their dynamic during live shows is really fun!
