Colorado Reggae Duo Stylie Release Irie New Album, Blazin’ Round the World

Colorado-based reggae duo, Stylie, released their first full-length album, Blazin’ Round the World, on March 26, 2021, and we are loving the irie vibes! Dailyreggae.com caught up with Stylie’s Garrison J Schulte to learn about the album’s inspiration and creative process.

This our first time listening to Stylie and we are loving your irie sound and positive message! Tell us about the inspiration behind your new album, Blazin’ Round the World.

Blazin’ Round the World" is our first full-length album, which we recorded at our home studio Dub Farm Records here in Lyons, Colorado. We’ve been working on the album for the past year, though some songs were written well before that and they finally had a chance to come together on one cohesive album. There are lots of different styles represented within "Blazin’ Round the World" so we decided to do something a little different and create a bit of a concept album.

The album is presented as a radio broadcast hosted by BloodPreshah, a 25 year veteran of reggae radio who is currently working out of Long Island, New York. The basic theme is Stylie launches a rocket that brings a radio station up into outer space, so we can spread positive reggae music across the entire world. There are a handful of short radio segments scattered across the album, with original dub backing tracks we recorded on our vintage tape machine in the studio. The album also features several guest artists from the Colorado reggae scene, including Green Buddha, Amanda Juline, and Luna Shade

What was the album’s creative process like?

We have a studio just outside Boulder, Colorado called Dub Farm Records where we write, record, and produce all the tracks in-house. Living in the beautiful mountains of Colorado we are constantly inspired to write positive reggae music.

We write songs in a number of different ways. Sometimes it starts as an acoustic song written on the beach or with friends. Sometimes we write a riddim first in the studio and then we work together to put some lyrics to it.

It was fun to work with some other artists on this album. We got to write a song and then see what type of lyrics and melodies they came up with. Everybody we worked with did an awesome job with their parts.

Support Stylie by purchasing their album, or stream their music.
