2023 Daily Reggae “Best Of” Awards: Roots Reggae Album of the Year Nominees

When you hear roots reggae, you instantly connect with an irie bass line, the lyrics standing up for people’s rights, and the sound of peace and love.

Roots reggae remains strong in 2023 and we fell in love with some of these new LPs.

Congratulations to the 2023 Daily Reggae “Best Of” Awards Nominees for Roots Reggae Album of the Year!

  • Alborosie: Destiny: In the 14 track album, Alborosie brilliantly shines light on important societal issues over a mix of top reggae, rock and dancehall riddims. The instrumentation in “Destiny” is superb and I especially love the use of horns, the vibing drum patterns, and listening to Alborosie’s creative and thoughtful lyrics.

  • Gyptian, Konshens, Lutan Fyah: Reggae Triplets: Regge legends Gyptian, Konshens, Lutan Fyah team in “Reggae Triplets”, a must-hear album featuring 12 irie tracks that will instantly hook you and make you feel the roots.

  • Samory I, Strength: Jamaica’s Samory I is a true triple threat dropping passion, soulful vocals and conscious lyrics that matter. The singer-songwriter stands up for his community and issues that need attention in “Strength”.

  • Kava Jah and The Remedy: Look How Long: The most talented artists make music that is honest and bring you into a glimpse of their world and “Look How Long” is one of my favorite new albums, because it does just that.

  • Micah Shemaiah: Jamaica Jamaica: Micah Shemaiah’s uplifting spirit is in full display in “Jamaica Jamaica”. You can hear the urgency in Shemaiah’s voice and it definitely catches the listener’s ear. I have no doubt that you’ll connect with the emotions of Shemaiah’s lyrics/vocals and will feel inspired to push forward with your head held up high.
