Natty’s evolution brings sound healing reggae music
Daily Reggae caught up with talented reggae artist Natty to learn more about his creativity process and new album, “The Divine Trinity”.
Congrats on your new album, “The Divine Trinity”! What does that mean to you and what would you like fans to hear / connect with?
The divine trinity stems from the meaning of Haile Selassie which means the power of the Trinity and this celebrates the divinity of all the trinities that make up our reality and is what the whole concept of this album is about. A Trinity of trinities.
Tell us about story about how the album came together. Do you have some memorable experiences writing and recording?
This album came together over a period of change, I was evolving in my sound production techniques, my understanding of sound healing, meanwhile I was moving my family out of the city and onto an off-grid homestead that we have been building while writing and recording.
When I was recording vocals in my makeshift studio before completing it, my children always used to burst in and sing along in jest, some of these takes ended up making the album.
How did you approach the album’s writing process?
One riff, one lyric, one song at a time, that way the album reveals itself, and just like as a farmer I facilitate the growth, I am not the grower, as I am not the creator I just facilitate the song’s manifestation.
Do you have a favorite place to write?
In the hills of St Ann, Jamaica.
Being based in London, what are some of your favorite places to perform?
I always love hometown shows, but I also loved West Coast USA, probably because I was born there and have a connection to the place. I also love Sudan, Sierra Leone… Africa on the whole is special to me.
For the U.S. audience that may not be as familiar with your music yet, how do you create your soul reggae and how can fans say on top of your music and tour dates?
I try and stay tuned into nature and natural things as much as possible, therefore when songs are ready to manifest themselves
I am ready to apply a loving, natural touch to the writing and production process, trying as hard as possible to not let my ego get in the way of anything.
I always keep my Instagram page and my website up to date. These are the 2 best places.
