Jimmy Cliff advises up-and-coming artists to ‘Give the best of yourself’
Daily Reggae caught up with reggae icon, Jimmy Cliff, to learn about the creation of his incredible new album, “Refugees”, and to hear his advice for up-and-coming artists.
Jimmy, your new album, “Refugees” came out wonderful. What was unique about making this album?
It was a long journey, it took a few years.
Did you write the songs while playing the guitar, or did some of the lyrics and themes come to you at different times?
Playing guitar, at different times. Each song of this album did not happen at the same time.
You are a global reggae icon and you always push yourself to make new and creative music. From a creativity standpoint, how is “Refugees” different than your previous albums?
The lyrics and the melodies are different. However, all albums are different.
Do you plan to tour soon to play some of these new songs live?
I have no plans at the moment.
Thanks for everything you’ve done to inspire people and for your dedication to reggae and making people happy. What music are you listening to these days and do you have any advice for new up-and-coming artists?
I don’t have a particular style of music I listen to. I just love to listen to music.
Give the best of yourself.
