Crossed Heart Clothing: Rad Music For Rad People
Congratulations on all your success with Crossed Heart Clothing. You and Kady have done an amazing job launching the brand and coming out with unique designs; CHC has quickly become a favorite in the scene! For those unfamiliar, could you tell us a bit about the brand and its mission?
Thanks so much! The brand has one mission - Make rad clothes for rad people. We love making stuff that we would wear and it’s awesome to see others enjoy it as well. It’s so fun.
What pushed you to start CHC?
Starting a clothing company is something we both wanted to do for a long time. We both love creating stuff and wanted something that we could create together.
CHC is co-owned with your wife Kady, how is it working with your partner to bring the brand to life?
It’s amazing! She has such a talent for visual art and making things look cool. It’s amazing to run a business with your partner if both your vision for the company is the same and you both bring something exciting, valuable and different to the table.
What comes first. The artwork or the product?
It’s different every time but I’d say more often it’s the art. We’ll think of a concept we like or find some art that we love and then pick which garment will suit it best.
Your artwork is so unique, do you collaborate with others?
Yes! All of our art is sourced from a collection of artists we love.
Who would be your dream collaboration?
We haven’t collaborated with anyone for a release yet, it’s not something that I see us doing - but I guess for the sake of the question if we ever collabbed with VANS that’d be pretty sick.
What are some new products you are personally most excited about? In your opinion, what is the must-have item of the line?
I personally love the shorts. It’s always been a struggle for me to find just the right pair of shorts and every time I’d find them in a store they’d be out of stock by the next season. So we made some. I’m not kidding when I say they’re the best shorts I’ve ever owned and I really do live in them lol.
How does the creativity of working on CHC compare to making music?
It’s different for sure - with music I almost like to tune out and let the song come to me but with CHC I’m very engaged and always thinking ten steps ahead.
CHC recently announced its first festival appearance will be at this year's Reggae Rise Up Las Vegas in October. Should fans be expecting to see more of CHC in the future? Are there any other events or collabs already in the works?
Absolutely!!! One of our main goals is to bring the booth to as many music festivals that we can. We’re working on and really looking forward to bringing the brand to tattoo conventions and other genre music festivals as well.
Running a merchandise company in the time of “supply chain issues” could not have been easy, were there any lessons learned or insights that surprised you?
We’ve been pretty lucky in that sense. We have the best suppliers ever, our dear friends here in Orange County and have been fortunate to not really have dealt with too many supply chain issues.
We would be remiss in our duty not to ask about Iya Terra. Is there any new music coming out, either with the band or solo?
New music always in the works!
