Album Review: Rastan brings vocal heat in “From The Midtown With Love”

Santa Cruz, California-based musician Rastan is an amazing talent and his new album, “From The Midtown With Love” is a vibe showcasing the artist’s lyrical flow and vocals.

Rastan greets us with “Open Arms” in the opening track and I love his ability to blend reggae and dancehall with a hint of hip hop flavor over the bouncy rididm.

You are immediately brought in and feel at ease.

An irie riddim drops in the love song, “What She Does”, which teams Rastan with Stylai Raiz. The contrast of having the male vs female perceptive add a deep dimension to the song’s story.

Love Of Ya Life” has an intricate and feel good riddim. The horns make it super dance friendly and once again Rastan expertly pairs his verse with another perspective. This time teaming with the skillful Emma Storm.

Rastan and Ricky Montijo collab in “Rainy Daze”, an inspiring song that reminds us that even in tough times, sunny days are ahead. I love this track’s bass line and theme.

There is a simplicity to “Everyday” that I vibe with and Rastan pours his heart out emphasizing his love for that special someone.

Time to get the party started with Rastan’s “Tequila”, a laid back groove with a dance friendly beat.

One of my favorite songs on the album is Rastan’s “Top Of The World”. The song pushes a sense of urgency for following and achieving your dreams. Respect!

The mix of Rastan, Stylai Raiz and Benny Ranks together in “Paradise” is really unique with each of the artists’ styles converging over the riddim.

Rastan honors his roots and pushes himself as an artist and you’ll love taking this journey with him across the album. “What You Need” ft Ranks is another uplifting track that will pick up your spirits.
