Sweden’s Angelica Mava celebrates self love and pushes away beauty standards in the important song, “Flawless”.

This is my fist time listening to Mava and wow, her voice is incredible! The single released earlier this year has a super catchy riddim and great production. Daily Reggae caught up with Mava to learn more about the song’s inspiration and message.

“In January of this year, a three-part documentary aired on Swedish television about plastic surgery within the influencer community in Stockholm, Sweden; "Priset vi betalar" (Eng: "The price we pay"). Watching so many girls, heavily pressured by beauty standards, feeling like they need to alter their appearance for survival within their industry, completely crushed my heart."

She went on to say, “Like most women, I too can relate to the pressure of wanting to look beautiful, but being exposed to this level of desperation was new to me. And these topics spun in my head for weeks. I couldn't get it out of me, so I wrote this song. "I lift my hand to tell you bon, bon voyage - They call it fix but I'm not broken at all - I am flawless". I get frustrated with excuses like "this is what I was meant to look like" or "this and that was a little crooked so I fixed it" - there is nothing to be fixed, in my opinion. Manipulating what's natural can never be factual. With that being said, don't hate the player, hate the game. Wanting to fit in is the most human feeling. Guilt shouldn't be added to the shoulders of these girls, when the actual problem is our twisted idea of what a "real woman" is.”

Respect!

I’m super excited to follow along with Mava’s new music!
