We first started grooving to Awa’s music when we heard his song, Perfect Day with Anuhea. It’s a classic! The New Zealand-based singer has released a new song called Would You Be that has us dancing on our feet as we’re starting this new week!

Would You Be blends pop, funk with a little reggae twist, and Awa has really fun vocals in the love song.

Dailyreggae.com asked Awa about reggae’s influence on his music, and he said, “We love reggae in Aotearoa (New Zealand). Growing up Bob Marley’s music was everywhere and we refer to him as Uncle Bob. So much so, I actually thought he was Māori and my uncle!”

It’s so cool to hear how reggae and Bob Marley have impacted Awa’s music.

Awa went on to say, “Island reggae is a huge part of my sound. Although it’s not so evident in ‘Would You Be’, you’ll notice it in my songs that follow.”

We cannot wait to hear the new tunes!

Would You Be is the Daily Reggae Song of the Day.
