The Destinators, a reggae and dub group out of Charleston, South Carolina, have released an irie new song called You (Sailing Away). We are absolutely loving the song’s vibes, grooving bass line, and relaxing vocals. Dailyreggae.com caught up with Liam Farrell (guitar and back up vocals) to learn how this energetic six piece ensemble mixes a blend of R&B vocals, soul and roots to bring forth a reggae sound that is both fresh and unique. Already veterans of the Charleston music scene, The Destinators have recently been in their recording studio, producing and recording new tracks to be shared with the world.

Great to meet you Liam! We are loving The Destinators’ new single You (Sailing Away). Tell us about the band and your latest song!

Upon releasing, “Loosen Up Your Mind” in January 2021, the song gained attraction in the Hawaiian reggae scene. This new song and relationship started immediately after Ambrose reached out to us after listening to our music. We felt extremely fortunate when he had asked if we could work together on a track. He sent us his music and we were instantly inspired and fell in love with his sound. We got on the phone that week and developed a strong relationship right off the rip.

The riddim was originally called, “Queens” which was going to be the name of the tune. After some deep discussion and sitting on the finished track for a minute, we came up with the dual name of “You (Sailing Away)”.

So rad! It’s awesome that you are collaborating with so many artists in the scene.

We’ve been working with Mike Caplan from day one and we’re excited to share this one with him. Like clockwork, he polished this track up to perfection. We are very thankful for having Mike have the last at bat at our music. He truly ties it all together with his craft.

Our incredible artist, Kelley Wills, had some art that was drawn up from a few months back and she sent this beautiful piece of art right back to us after listening to it.

The rest is history.

Rock on! We will definitely be bumping You (Sailing Away) often!

We’re still as much in love with the tune today, from when we finished it a while back. What has made it even more special is incorporating it into our live set.

We’ve had multiple friends and new listeners approach us after our set and ask us about that particular track and we tell them the exact story of us and Ambrose coming together on this.

We feel bless and honored to have worked with such a high caliber artist on this track and are ready for the future ahead.

You (Sailing Away) by The Destinators is the Daily Reggae Song of the Day.
