Southern California-based musician, Justin Vidal has released a cool new song called It’s a Beautiful Day, and we are loving the laid back guitar riddim, Justin’s vocals, and the song’s mellow vibe. Dailyreggae.com caught up with Justin to learn about his journey as a musician and the creation of It’s a Beautiful Day.

Hey Justin! Tell us about your journey as a musician?

I started playing the drums in third grade; picked up the guitar around sixth grade. I come from a family of musicians, dancers, martial artists, etc. A very creative family.

My father got my first 8 track recording machine in seventh grade. This is when I began writing with structure, laying separate tracks down, and really learning how to produce a track. I've always been able to hear everything together in my head, so it was just learning the tools to get them out of the speakers.

I joined my first rock band when I was in fifth grade. I lived across the street from a middle school, so the older kids would peek their heads in the garage while I was playing the drums. Eventually, they started showing up with guitars. I grew up listening to all the classics (Floyd, Zep, Police, Rush...) so naturally, this is what I was learning to play while honing my skills as a drummer and guitarist. I also began taking notes on the melodies, and why I loved them so much.

How did you write and produce It's a Beautiful Day?

It's a Beautiful Day is my first solo release. I was in a band for several years in college called, Walk the Rio. This is where I really got my "big crowd", Hollywood shows and some touring under my belt. Once I finished college I started working, got married, and started growing my beautiful family. The one thing that started eating me up as my girls started to become aware of what was going on, was that they didn't see me making and playing music every single day...this is me, and something needed to change.

My wife helped me remodel my office (a room built in our garage) into a studio so I could get all my gear put back together. Once that was done, I started writing again.

I have many songs recorded that I plan to release that just need some more production, but this song pretty much came together over a weekend and everyone I showed would tell me that they really liked it and would catch themselves singing it later in the day. That's when I decided to get my first one out! Of course, we love the beach, we love beautiful days, and who doesn't love a drink and some skimpy bikini's walking around!

It’s a Beautiful Day by Justin Vidal is the Daily Reggae Song of the Day.
