International roots reggae collaboration Roots Makers have released a new EP called Summers Love and Dailyreggae.com caught up with the band to learn about the creative process and inspiration.

Karigan (drummer), Organiks (keys), and Redjee (guitar) live in France and DM Kahn (bass, Mix engineer) lives in Canada. The group is truly global and that’s so cool!

Tell us about the creative process in creating Summers Love. The vibes on the EP are so irie!

We did some initial pre-production, then Karigan and Redjee recorded all of the tracks in one day at the studio. Organiks and DM Kahn overdubbed the bass and keys, then DM Kahn mixed it. At that point, Kahn procured the four vocalists for this album. All of them recorded their vocals where they live - Lyndon John X in Ontario, Canada. Kapena Mokiao and Damon Williams in Hawaii. And Jacob Iosia (For Peace Band) in Guam. DM Kahn mixed all the songs and released them with promotion help from the other Roots Makers. Karigan did the album artwork. Soon to come are four dub versions and then the four vocal and four dubs will be put onto vinyl within the next two to three months.

What message did you want people to hear?

That LOVE is a universal language and reggae music can help spread love and joy across the globe! Roots Music is alive and well, and we pay homage and tribute to the originators - the Jamaican people in JA and the UK and their wonderful Rubadub and Lovers Rock they provided, we just want to keep that sound alive and well.

Make Them Feel It by Roots Makers featuring Lyndon John X is the Daily Reggae Song of the Day.
