2023 Daily Reggae “Best Of” Awards: Album of the Year Nominees
The amount of talent spanning the reggae music genre is absolutely incredible and it’s no easy task narrowing the list of new album releases down to the five best 2023 releases. This year, we paid extra attention to LPs that tell a story and carry the listener from start to finish.
Congratulations to the 2023 Daily Reggae “Best Of” Awards Nominees for Album of the Year!
The following are excerpts from Daily Reggae album reviews showcasing the albums:
Buju Banton: BORN FOR GREATNESS: “Jamaican superstar Buju Banton proves once again he is “BORN FOR GREATNESS” in the artist’s latest album. Banton sings with such a soulful voice, and he is an amazing lyricist / storyteller. This album’s production is top notch across the board.”
Stephen Marley: Old Soul: “First off, what a fantastic collection of new songs; the whole vibe of this album is a dream! Every song has the ability to lift negativity away and transport you to a different mindset. This is music that can only be created from the heart and soul, from a place of sincerity and deliberateness – something the Marley family is known extremely well for. Stephen Marley has a soothing, yet powerful voice carried by acoustic-inspired compositions across the album, and the production is equally as smooth.”
Common Kings: CELEBRATION: “The ultra-smooth Orange County quartet known as Common Kings are back to put their signature island vibes into the pop-reggae scene with a brand new album fittingly titled CELEBRATION. Almost two years in the making and filtered down from an incredible 120 songs to just 12, CELEBRATION aims to get you in the mood to shake around and sing aloud!”
Morgan Heritage, The Homeland: “Morgan Heritage’s new 21 song album, “The Homeland”, is a magnificent reggae music masterpiece. Throughout the album, you will smile, feel love and be taken by the band’s talent as storytellers.”
Johnny Osbourne: Right Right Time: “The talented singer songwriter teamed up with the French Connexion Band and the collaboration created a fresh sound that is amongst the best new reggae that I’ve heard in recent years.”
