Surfer Girl showcases growth and an abundance of creativity in powerful new LP, “Sunset”
Daily Reggae caught up with Surfer Girl to learn more about the artist’s incredible new album, “Sunset”, his favorite new music, and his smooth band.
Congrats on the new album! What are some new approaches that you took to producing the LP?
Thank you! Stoked for this one. I really wanted to open myself back up to writing with other folks in order to create the best possible songs. I often flip flop between doing everything 100% myself, in a vacuum, and working with friends to create something bigger than myself.
This album was definitely a joint effort. Some songs are all me, others are a collaboration with multiple folks. I love how albums can span different creative strategies like that.
We’ve been loving all the singles that have supported the album! What is one single that is especially close to your heart?
I think that Collecting Dust is one of the best pieces of music I've ever written. I'm incredibly proud of that song. It's got a unique and powerful groove, one that we don't dabble with much.
Also, the production is super minimal (which is rare for me - ha). Which allows the lyrics, melodies and vocals to breathe.
That's by far one of my favorite songs in a long time.

You’ve been out on the road performing to new audiences around the country. Is there another song on the album that you and the band have been enjoying playing live and why?
Oh man, Freckles. That song is just so groovy. It's got a worldly feel, a super danceable rhythm, and the rapping + super simple chorus just makes it an absolute smash foer the live show.
Speaking of your band, what can you tell us about them and how long have you been together?
I love those fooooools. Samantha Callahan plays bass, Bobby Krak on drums, and Jack Pavlina on lead guitar. We've been playing together since August 2024, and I'm truly lucky to have met them when I did.
We have so much fun on stage together, and we're constantly trying to one-up each other, ensuring a super dynamic and fun show. I'm a lucky guy to have such killer musicians alongside me. They make me look good!
What message do you want Surfer Girl fans to hear when they listen to the new album?
I want folks to appreciate the growth. I've always prided myself on taking different approaches with each project, and I want them to understand and respect the approach that this one has! I tried to make big, feel good, catchy records with this one.
There's a little bit of something for everyone here, whether the slow, introspective, raw songs - or the simple, laid back, summertime groovers. I hope everyone gives this album a chance, and lets it grow on them!
