Dailyreggae.com caught up with Landon McNamara to learn about the artist’s songwriting process, his amazing new single, “If You Only Knew”, released by Silverback Music / Controlled Substance Sound Labs, and passion for living in the moment.

Still Kickin’ is such a beautiful album! How has your songwriting evolved over time?

I either have inspiration for a certain concept and write off that, or pick up a guitar and get inspired by the sound that comes in that moment. I just try my best to get my message across in a poetic way I guess, but a lot of the time it also just comes out straight forward. Less is more, most of the time I’ve learned. I try to find that balance.

We are vibing to your new single, "If You Only Knew” in which you encourage people to live in the moment. How important has living in the moment been to your journey as an artist?

If I’m not in the moment, I’m in my head, and that’s no good for me. All my stress/discomfort comes from dwelling in the negative of the past or worries about the future. Being in the moment is something I hope to master. When I do find those moments, it’s bliss.

Are you planning any upcoming tours?

I’d love to, but I’d like to do it right, with a healthy balance for family/personal life, surfing and sanity haha.

How do you have to approach the energy and inspiration of touring vs. recording music?

It all depends really, different occasions call for different solutions.

What advice would you have for up-and-coming artists?

Just do you, different is good. If what you create makes you feel something and it’s real to you, other people will relate to that too.

If You Only Knew” by Landon McNamara is the Daily Reggae Song of the Day.
