Livity longevity legendary, Burning Spear's album "No Destroyer" marks the reggae icon's triumphant return

Burning Spear, the living reggae legend, presents a new addition to his extensive and extraordinary discography, after a 15 year wait, with the unique "No Destroyer".

This twelve-track album adds a vibrant chapter to his already comprehensive discography, showcasing a captivating fusion of classic reggae beats, with dubby inflections.

A testament to Burning Spear's enduring positivity, every song has a cheerful uplifting quality.

The invigorating dubby riddim is artfully woven within "No Destroyer" from start to finish.

The spirited sounds of the opening track, “The Spear” sets the vibe of the album. Burning Spear’s message of life and livity is clear in this album.

The memorable melodies such as "No Destroyer", “Independent” and “No Fool”, induce a bounce in my stride, I find myself tapping tables to the tempo following the beats.

Throughout the album, the wisdom of Burning Spear, is imparted on the listener with his wonderfully wise lyrics and unmistakable cadence, “You gotta take full responsibility for your action” in the dub heavy “Obsession”. In a favourite tune of mine the big bass’d “Jamaica”, “You best stand up for something, than stand up for nothing”, reinforcing lessons of the rebel reggae music that Burning Spear has borne the banner of for decades.

In “Open The Gate”, a heartwarming tribute to the legendary standard bearers of reggae music. Burning Spear pays homage and gives thanks to his fellow contemporaries within the genre who help lead reggae music to become a global sensation. The fresh feel of the funky flute in another favourite of mine, “Talk”, is a mesmerising addition to the album, exemplifying the feel of the album as a whole.

Burning Spear’s enduring legacy shines brightly, with his new studio album “No Destroyer”. He has bestowed to us an album filled with groovy flowing beats, that puts me in a tranquil trance of uplifting positivity. Burning Spear’s energy pulsates through every song highlighting why he is legendary reggae royalty and an everlasting force within the genre.
