Album Review: “Feels Like Home” highlights Triple Thread’s journey into Southern California reggae rockers
When you read Triple Thread’s bio, you’re struck by the band’s nationwide beginnings as three out of the five band members grew up outside of California. Inspiration struck and what started as a journey west began to feel like home and this excitement and energy is what I hear when I listen to the Orange County reggae rock band’s debut album, “Feels Like Home”.
One of the unique aspects of Triple Thread is the band has three vocalists that you’ll hear throughout the album. They are Andrew McCormick (guitar/vocals), Noah Caron (bass/vocals), and Dan Westerlund (guitar/vocals).
The album’s first song “Home” speaks to the struggles of finding your way in a new home. As someone who recently moved with my family to Southern California, I can completely relate and I especially dig this tracks rocking guitars and the catchy hook and keys of Wolfy Keeney.
Speaking of catchy hooks and lyrics, “Dark Sunshine” shows off the band’s sensitive side and the piano solo adds a lot to this jam!
Love is in the air in Triple Thread’s “Sweet Girl”. You’ll instantly appreciate the band’s reggae guitar chops and Justin Schubel’s drumming. It’s a song about the excitement of new love and day dreaming memories into fruition.
Sometimes love fails and its like riding an Orange County wave up and down. Either way it’s frustrating and “Kisses Goodbye” is a great breakup song showing the band’s rock chops.
Hop into “In Flames” and again you’ll hear Triple Thread’s punk rock influence. I’m especially grooving to Caron’s bass line. I’d love to hear the band play this track live!
The band reflects on society’s struggles while pushing for increased unity in “Conscience Falling” a powerful song about facing tough times and navigating to new days ahead. I’m feeling the hip hop style verse followed by the guitar solo and the band taking time to address mental heath woes.
You’ll really hear the band’s groove in “My Song” and “Tomorrow’s Sunburn”, which show off the band’s songwriting talent, musicianship and cohesion. The ladder is absolutely a song that you’ll sing along to at a concert with the catchy hook and fun beach vibes feel.
A nice cozy day at home is sometimes hard to beat and that’s what I envision when I hear the creative track “Even In The Rain” another great reggae rock love song about keeping faith even in rocky times.
More creative song writing is shown in “Four Steps To You” a song about trusting the process and feeling content in your journey.
Triple Thread highlights their rock roots while bringing its reggae inspiration into the fold in “The Unknown”. Once you’ve found your home, it makes the unknown that much more tolerable and even exciting! Exciting is a great word to explain Triple Thread and the band’s rise. Now planted in their happy place, so many good vibes are to follow!
