“Beauty In The Acoustic” showcases SOJA’s songwriting excellence
I recently had the chance to see SOJA perform at Cali Vibes, and they were better than ever!
It had been nearly ten years since I last saw them live and I was blown away by the band’s set and energy. The pairing of Jacob Hemphill and Trevor Young’s vocals has added a beautiful new element to an already legendary band pushing the reggae rock genre forward.
SOJA’s fantastic 2021 album, “Beauty In The Silence” took home a well deserved GRAMMY, and I truly believe the band’s best music is still to come.
The D.C. reggae rockers recorded “Beauty In The Acoustic” while performing a full length Sugarshack Sessions set, and the resulting album showcases SOJA’s songwriting excellence. And I’m not just speaking within the reggae scene - I truly believe SOJA’s latest music is amongst the best songwriting in all of music today!
Sugarshack shines a light on the talented reggae music community and hearing SOJA break down these thoughtful tracks acoustically is so amazing to hear. The band’s play is so well connected and their reggae groove is a treat for any reggae fan or new listener still getting into the reggae genre.
Two of my favorite tracks on the album are “Press Rewind” and “The Day You Came”, which feature classic SOJA bass lines and the complimentary vocals of Hemphill and Young.
In the tune “Jump” you’ll love hearing the acoustic style drumming that will have you bouncing your head and singing along within seconds!
The guitar in “Reason To Live” is absolutely gorgeous and another standout track that encourages listeners to keep their head up throughout life’s journey. Hemphill drops a classic SOJA hook that is so fun to sing along to.
The band even added an acoustic version of their song, “I Don’t Wanna Wait”, which breathes new energy into the classic.
Hearing SOJA perform these songs in an acoustic manner is so refreshing and makes me so excited to hear the new music the band has coming!
