The numbers don’t lie. Stick Figure once again had a major year with the release of “Wisdom” and continued its streak of four consecutive years selling the most reggae albums after Bob Marley. Stick Figure’s influence is strongly felt across the scene and many up-and-coming artists are looking for ways to merge reggae, dub and rock following Stick Figure's influence. 

2022 was a major year for Kabaka Pyramid and his star power rose significantly through countlesss features, a national U.S. tour and a GRAMMY nomination for “The Kalling”, which had Pyramid team up with Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley.

Bumpin Uglies stretch their legs in their single “Everything Changes” featuring The Elovaters. True to their DMV roots, the song revolves around catchy pop-punk chorus, but they lean into the album title (Mid-Atlantic Dub) bringing in dub elements such as big echoing hits and an absolutely driving baseline.

Koffee’s elevated her star power in a major way in 2022 including an international tour and a Grammy nom for “Gifted”. The roots reggae music is felt strongly in “Lonely” as Koffee drops her beautiful vocals over an irie riddim.

One of our favorite aspects of today’s reggae genre is the ability for artists to cross genres and pull in all of their musical influences. Protoje’s 2022 album, “Third Time’s The Charm” is a vibe, and “Hills” showcases Protoje’s smooth flow over a hip hop meets reggae riddim.

Sometimes taking a trip without much of a plan in place is the best kind and the pairing of Landon McNamara and DENM produced the rocking jam “Wild Trip”. The reggae rock guitar and drum beat made this one of our favorite jams of the year.

Few bands look like they are having more fun than Artikal Sound System, and for good reason. The Florida-based band grew up in so many ways in 2022 and proved its ability to cross genres like reggae, rock and pop.

Kyle Ahern’s rise as reggae’s leading guitar shredder is one of the most inspiring stories in all of music today. He went from a fan winning Rebelution’s Jam Contest to becoming an integral part of the band’s live shows.

Reggae festivals no longer only live in the summer season. They are now year round, which is amazing! Reggae Rise Up made huge strides positioning their brand and successfully creating a series of festivals across the U.S. including Nevada, Florida, and Maryland.

Ineffable Music was everywhere in 2022 and its talented bench of artists including Stick Figure, Collie Buddz, Mike Love, and The Elovaters each made major headwinds.

Any time I listen to The Expendables, I cannot help but smile because Weers always shares the good vibes and I love this fun collaboration with Kash’d Out’s Greg Shields. From California to Florida, The Expendables and Kash’d Out bring us so much meditation and peace!

The legendary Stephen Marley is teaming up with Mike Love and dropped “Old Soul Tour Unplugged” dates. The nationwide tour is an amazing opportunity to see two of the most incredible reggae stars on the planet.

Lopaka Rootz HI in I, Josh Heinrichs and SkillinJah celebrate a “Harvest” in an irie new single. The Hawaii-based artist teamed up with Heinrichs and SkillinJah and I’m vibing with the laid back feel. I especially dig the keys and message of slowing down and enjoying life.

I’ve been digging The Holdup for years. It might have started when my friend sent me their song, “Girls Love Toast”. When you think of The Holdup you think of super catchy reggae rock with hints of R&B and hip hop. The Holdup’s new single, “Still Looking For Love” is their latest super catchy song and highlights the amazing voice and production that Michael Garmany brings to the table.

Following openings in London and Toronto, the Bob Marley One Love Experience is coming to Los Angeles on January 27 and tickets are available on Dec. 7. If you’re a reggae fan visiting this exhibit is a no brainer; it sounds super cool!
